Every month I teach an Oil Painting Class at Rox Arts Gallery in Aspen Grove, Littleton, Colorado. One favorite is: Late November Snow (top left). This oil on canvas of a horseback ride in the snowy and tall Washington state trees can be a challenge to teach, but there are very learnable skills to make snow and trees look realistic. Come join us for a painting class. You can register at www.roxartsgallery.com under “Classes”.
Then there is a 30"x40" oil on canvas, of the Dallas Divide (top middle) mountain range with a timeless split rail fence in the foreground. I had to rely on a smattering of old photographs because this fence has not been kept up in recent years. What an incredibly gorgeous spot in south central Colorado.
Next is Morning Majesty (top right). The goal of this 24"x36" oil on canvas piece was to capture the incredible lighting of the mountain that serves as a backdrop to a majestic elk standing front and center, in the shade - with just a pinch of ambient light on his body.
Below that is a painting titled: Lanai Dusk (bottom left), a 30"x40" oil on canvas which was shown in Sargent's Gallery in downtown Lahaina, Maui, but it is now available without gallery markup. What fun to be on that spectacular island, and paint a seascape that shows the beauty of that gorgeous locale. The many colors in the sunset, the translucence of the water, and the intricacy of the whole moment made it a joy to paint.
Another painting, done on commission, is titled Twilight Bliss (bottom middle). It’s a moment captured on a sailing vessel that speaks volumes as to why those who sail love to venture out in open waters. Evening sunlight reflects off the water and even through the sails of the ship, in a breathtaking moment.
Finally, is Molokai Shores (bottom right), a stunning 30"x40" oil on canvas, with a real mix of paint knife and paint brush usage. This may be one of my favorite seascape scenes. I’ve done this painting twice, the first piece was shown and sold in Maui.
